Today’s Wallpapers Help Create Mood and Style for Homes

Wallpaper has been having a renaissance over the last five years. In the past, we went through decades of really bad wallpapers.  As a green interior designer, I usually prefer sustainable design options such as vertical green garden walls, recycled wood or glass panels to give a strong visual impression or to set the mood in residential spaces. I do have to admit today’s new wallpapers used in just the right space could be just what is needed.

During this year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York, I found it interesting to see an increase in wallpaper companies. Every year there are more and more companies entering into the creation and production of diverse types of wallpapers. With so many new and unique designs and healthier manufacturing processes, there are now wallpapers for everyone’s budget and needs.

The days of permanent and dowdy wallpapers are gone. Today if you want to add impact or a design detail to a room without damaging your walls there are even temporary wallpapers.  Temporary wallpapers are perfect for those who are indecisive or those who are leasing a home.

Wallpaper is a great way to set a mood in a space. It makes it so easy to create a powder or dining room to feel like an escape or a statement.

My favorite wallpaper at this year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair was Meystyle. Their wallpapers are embedded with LED lights and luxury Swarovski crystals. Although LED wallpapers have been around for a while, Meystyle’s LED wallpapers are very special.  Their “Nina” collection really captured my interest.

LED wallpapers offer innovative options to illuminate rooms and deliver great impact to spaces. The soft, little, mysterious lights hardly reveal where the twinkle of illumination is coming from and use 90% less electricity than a standard light bulb.

One big advantage of using LED wallpaper is it can be hung in more or fewer strips and lengths according to the architecture and furnishings of a room allowing various creative options.

LED wallpaper is a way of bringing green energy to interior spaces and offering an alternative to wall art.
